Dogs Heart Cake Too!

Meet Frank.

Frank is my dog/child.   A furry, black, stinky child but a child nevertheless.  So when it came around to his first birthday naturally I wanted to make him a cake to celebrate.

I scoured the internet looking for recipes that were dog friendly, meat free (making a cake of meat did not appeal) and not too unhealthy and came across the fabulous Dog Treat Recipe Exchange (http://www.dog-treat-recipe-exchange.com/).  This site is stuffed full of dog treat recipes and there’s a whole page devoted to doggy birthday cakes.  I made a version of their Peanut Butter Delight cake as Frank is mad about peanut butter.

Frank’s Peanut Butter Birthday Cake

Ingredients
125g whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
50g cup peanut butter
60ml vegetable oil
125g shredded carrots
1 tsp vanilla extract
110g honey
1 egg

Instructions
1.       Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).

2.       Grease a 6 inch cake tin and line with greaseproof paper.

3.       Mix together the flour and baking powder.

4.       Add remaining ingredients and mix together.

5.       Pour the mixture into the cake tin and bake in the over for 40 minutes.

6.       Take out of the oven and allow to cool.

7.       Top with peanut butter, bone shaped dog biscuits (or whatever you like!) and most importantly a candle.

And here’s the end result with one very confused but happy puppy!
